ADULT:Length reaching up to 5mm in length. A delicious looking spider with females entirely green with the head slightly paler than the thoracic area and the abdomen with light hairs that form vague lines or chevrons. Males are similar but with the carapace reddish brown with paler margins and the first two pairs of legs with a brownish hue. BEHAVIOUR: The spider catches insects, sometimes larger than itself, in its small web, which it builds on the surface of curled leaves. HABITAT: Found in various shrubs plus Holly and Ivy. DISTRIBUTION: Well distributed and localised in southern Britian. PERIOD: Adults are best seen during August to October. |
